In this message, Francois contends that “spiritual warfare” is less an issue of aggression, attack, and techniques but more of one’s disposition of meekness, humility, dignity, honor, and glory. According to Psalm 8, God even uses the simplicity and weakness of a child to deal with the enemy. Those truly born into the Kingdom of God occupy a spiritual position and authority greater than that of John the Baptist. As Jesus taught, believers should not be intimidated by anything hurled against them by Satan. Instead, we can stand firm, dignified, and with the authority that Christ has granted us, actively resisting and withstanding the schemes of the Devil.

Francois suggests three more items to frame a New Testament understanding of the “judgment” of the “ruler of this world.” One of these items is the tension between truth from God’s perspective versus truth from our perspective. According to Christ, Satan is judged. According to our experience, however, this reality seems untrue. What, then, do we make of this tension as believers in the victory of Jesus over the Devil?

Jesus stated that Satan was “now judged.” However, we should not presume that Jesus’ judgment of Satan was the eradication of Satan. Until this very day, Satan seems to be very much alive and well. So what, then, is this so-called “judgment?” Among many things, Francois proposes that it is both the “eviction” and “exposing” of the Devil.

Believers often feel like it is up to them to “war” against their enemy, Satan. Endless spiritual “techniques” have been proposed throughout the church age to eradicate the Devil’s activities on the earth. But alas, every technique has proven futile thus far. Apparently, Satan is under God's “judgment.” Furthermore, according to Jesus, the Holy Spirit should convict us of this reality. It was prophesied of Jesus that He would be a comforting figure to all peoples. His comforting nature is undoubtedly easy to enjoy and appreciate. However, it was also prophesied (in the same text) that He would be a sword piercing through one’s very soul. In other words, there would be pain involved in following this Messiah. This piercing aspect of Jesus’ nature is much more challenging to process than that of His loving side. However, if we want to mature in our walk with Him, we must not only accept but embrace everything about Him, even if it is mysterious and piercing.

According to Isaiah 55, God's ways and thoughts are “higher than our ways.” This stark contrast between God and man's perspectives raises a profound question: how do we navigate a God who operates in ways that are so different from our own? How do we handle a God who is beyond our understanding and control? Can we ever find comfort in a God who is shrouded in mystery? Our ability to embrace this mystery is a clear measure of our spiritual growth.
