The Christian life is about being in Christ, not about doing good. God’s economy is not about goodly people but about godly people. Phariseeism fixates on being “good” with the fruit of self-righteousness. The spiritual man fixates on Christ. Good is not the pursuit of the Christian but the fruit of living by the Holy Spirit. Without Christ, good is actually death, according to Paul. Are you a good person or a godly Christian?

Within every Christian, there are 3 “experts” at war. Each “expert” lives according to its own laws and regulations and constantly seeks to overthrow the others for its own purposes. As believers, we need to understand from Romans 8:5-9 that our mind plays a crucial role within the outcome of this internal conflict. We must “set our minds” according to the Spirit or according to the flesh. The results are diametrically opposed to one another!

To “set your mind on the Spirit” is an ultimatum of Paul for the spiritual man to experience the rich realities of the spiritual life. God does not force or coerce us to “set our minds.” It is something we do according to the consecration of our hearts. An unconsecrated heart minds the “things of the flesh;” a consecrated man minds the “things of the Spirit.” Which one are you?
